Private cars stop at Sugadaira Bus Center; take the bus and ropeway up.

Operator's timetable

Allow 10 min to change. The ropeway station is a short walk from the bus stop; expect a queue in high season.

Kamikochi (上高地)

Closed to private cars all year. Bus or taxi from Sawando or Hirayu.

Matsumoto / Shinshimashima to Kamikochi (松本・新島々〜上高地)Alpico Kotsu

Reservation-preferred: without one you can still board if seats remain. Private cars are banned on the Kamikochi park road.

First bus to Kamikochi leaves Matsumoto at 05:30; the last from Shinshimashima is 15:30. Buses back from Kamikochi run 07:50 to 17:55.
